There’s an interview with Brian Bendis at Newsarama regarding Marvel Comics’ Illuminati- I guess the secret cabal that runs the Marvel Universe…if I were Angry Asian Man, I’d moan about why the Marvel Universe is run by a group composed entirely of white men…hell it even mentions that the Black Panther is excluded!
Arron Neville has an ad on the radio here asking the public that although Hurricane Katrina has passed from the public consciousness- the recovery if far and over…it’s cool and everything but does he have to sound so unenthusiastic? He actually sounds bored…
Finished watching Pom Poko last night…it’s the third time I’ve seen the movie and the first time in English…interesting to see it with today’s state of kind…the Tanuki’s fight to save their home is basically terrorism against foreign developers- insurgents if you will…I’ll be glad when today’s state of mind has passed (although the next state of mind would be probably be worse)…I remember the days (weeks) prior to 9/11 and the main news headlines were a missing girl who had senate connections and shark attacks…
By the way- they are TANUKI and not raccoon- there is a difference…kudos to whoever actually managed to get the movie a domestic release by the way- the film is very Asian- this in a time when they had to add a voiceover at the movie version of Memoirs of a Geisha explaining to western audiences that they are not watching a movie about westerners hence they aren’t using spoons to eat dinner…I can also see Japanese grandparents telling their grandkids, “Those ain’t pouches…dems their balls!!!!”
Beavis & Butthead and Ducktales come out on DVD today- I have fond memories of both…another DVD is the Kumars at 42- a BBC comedy (I think) that I’ve heard about and have always wanted to see…
